Sen. Cayetano, who considers herself a multi-sport athlete, said the cagefest should celebrate the commemoration of how women excelled in sports in this basketball-loving country.
“It’s high time that we have a league that will be played by the ‘amazonas’ of our country. And it is my pride and honor to be part of it,” said Cayetano.
Action formally opens at the Bulacan Capitol Gym in Malolos City, Bulacan, with the Glutagence Glow Boosters and Pacific Water Queens playing the first game at 4 p.m.
Organizers chose Sen. Cayetano because of her experiences in sports, like when she was a varsity volleyball athlete back in college at the University of the Philippines, before she made it to the national team.
Her participation in the Palarong Pambansa and advocacy later in life for being involved in cycling and triathlon were also given due recognition by organizers.
