Catapult Greater Pittsburgh (Formerly Circles Greater Pittsburgh) has launched its first catapult cooking program, a 12-month business incubator for “minority food-based entrepreneurs.” Last week it was announced that a total of 15 companies were selected to participate in the first round.

Of the 15 selected, all are of color, 10 are women and 2 are veterans.
Tammy Thompson, executive director of Catapult Greater Pittsburgh, said the Catapult Culinary had been in development for two years, adding that it was born after the entrepreneurial Catapult: Startup to Storefront program “flooded with applications from food-based businesses.” I did.
“I quickly realized that I needed to develop something unique to the industry, and focused on the local black food economy, I got a catapult: cooking,” says Thompson. “I am very proud of our team and great partners who help many entrepreneurs offer programs that they believe will change their lives.”
This program provides participants with a variety of support and support. This includes one-on-one mentoring with business consultants, monthly educational seminars, future access to commercial kitchen spaces by Fulton Commons, and access to the Food 21 Food and Beverage Network. Catapult Culinary has also begun a partnership with the regional supermarket chain Giant Eagle. It assists entrepreneurs with “food industry expertise and guidance on in-store product placement and the potential of pop-up demo spaces.”
Lachelle Binion, director of entrepreneurship at Catapult Greater Pittsburgh, believes the program will help promote the nonprofit mission of creating equity in the region.
“Black entrepreneurs face unique challenges and systematic barriers to the success of small businesses,” says Vinion. “The goal of the Catapult Greater Pittsburgh-Catapult Culinary Program is to break these barriers and provide innovative programming, opportunities and experiences that enable systematically deprived communities to achieve economic justice in the field of entrepreneurship.
